Robert Buckland QC MP National Lottery Cheque

South Swindon MP Robert Buckland attended a National Lottery 25th Birthday event in Parliament this week.

Since The National Lottery's first draw took place on 19 November 1994, more than £40 billion has been awarded to good causes in the areas of arts, sport, heritage and community.

Over £26.9m has been awarded in the South Swindon constituency over 558 projects, over the last 25 years. This includes:

Arts and Culture - £3,069,203 over 107 projects

Community - £14,767,249 over 354 projects

Film - £181,500 over 20 projects

Heritage – £6,533,480 over 37 projects

Sport - £2,423,598 over 50 projects

Robert commented: “The National Lottery Community Fund is the largest funder of community activity here in the UK. Last month, Swindon Community Organisations were awarded more than £65,000 in Lottery funding for the quarter. Groups awarded included Headway Swindon, a fantastic local charity I have been closely involved with over the years who work hard to improve the lives of those living with the effects of brain injury and their families here in Swindon.

“I have been campaigning hard with Swindon Seniors Forum to tackle loneliness here in Swindon, so I am further pleased that a large share of the national funding was awarded to projects which put local people in the lead to tackle this issue.”
